9:43 AM AirPlay Video for Safari, Third-party Apps Soon
Apple's new AirPlay feature introduced with iOS 4.2.1 update allows wireless streaming photos, music and videos to the Apple TV. At the moment, AirPlay is limited just with portable iOS devices. MacRumors reported that an Apple product owner mailed Apple CEO Steve Jobs if AirPlay would be available for Safari browser and third party Apps. Jobs responded stating, that video streaming AirPlay for Safari and third-party apps would be added in 2011.
AirPlay on iOS 4.2.1 update running iPhone or iPod touch will let users to stream their multimedia to an Apple TV. However, users would be able to stream only audio when Safari or other third party app is used for AirPlay. Apple has been criticized often for being severely restrictive with their software platforms. In Apple's defense, the company certainly wants a nuisance free operation of features. Though being a nice feature for iOS device owners, AirPlay won't let users stream the videos that were shot using the iPhone itself. Apple product user mailed Steve Jobs to ask if the company would enable video streaming via AirPlay for videos in Safari browser and third-party apps. Seeming to be in a festive mood, Jobs responded: Yep, hope to add these features to Airplay in 2011.
Maybe the rumored iOS 4.3 update will bring the AirPlay video support for Safari and third-party Apps. Also we'd like to see AirPlay letting us stream the videos we shot using an iPhone.
