5:16 PM Apple to Sell Beatles Music on iTunes
Apple has finally gained success in cracking a deal with EMI label to sell the tracks from the legendary band - The Beatles. The New York Times reported that according to a person familiar with the deal, talks between Apple executives and EMI materialised last week. Hence, Apple is preparing iTunes Store to disclose The Beatles catalog. Finally, The Beatles fans would be able to download their digital tracks via iTunes and listen on their iPhone, iPods and iPads.
In November last year, Apple and EMI hard0020 had partnered to release limited edition of Apple-shaped USB drives carrying a re-mastered catalog of The Beatles band. However, at that time, Apple did not disclose the price of this limited edition USB Catalog of The Beatles but it turned out to be a costly affair for admiring band's work. Reportedly, Apple and EMI declined to comment. The Beatles company Apple Corps (not Apple Inc.) took quite a while to agree for the digital downloads of re-mastered Beatles track. It was amusing to see that the deal didn't materialize due to the trademark litigation between Apple Inc. and Apple Corps that was resolved in 2007. Both companies have had more than three decades history of trademark litigations and lawsuits. In the end, Apple Inc. took control of the trademark and licensed them back to Apple Corps for undisclosed financial terms.
