Bolt Gets Support for Nine Indian Languages
Debuted at the Mobile World Congress 2009 in Barcelona, Bolt is a mobile browser featuring a full feature browsing experience on lower-end mobile phones. Its main USP is a seamless Internet experience very close to that of a desktop browser for all types of phones, including ones that can't be classified as smartphones. In essence, the browser brings a smartphone like browser functionality to the masses.

Developed by Delhi-based Bitstream India, Bolt has raised its ante further by including support for nine different Indian languages; thereby reaffirming its status as a browser for the masses. The Indian languages supported include Hindi, Bengali, Punjabi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Gujarati, Malayalam, and Oriya. According to Bitstream, Bolt is the first mobile browser to support proper rendering of Indian scripts. As opposed to existing mobile browsers which cannot render Indian text accurately or the ones that resort to static rendering of the webpages, which isn't good enough.

Since this browser brings a rich feature set to even the low-end phones, the support for local languages is even more significant, because the lowest common denominator will now be able to use a feature directed at it. Considering the rate of mobile penetration and the abundance of cheap phones in the market, a browser catering to the vernacular demographic makes perfect sense.
