1:43 PM Dia Mirza: 'I'm a better actor than model'
By Hindustan Times MUMBAI, Oct. 26 -- For a former Miss Asia Pacific, walking the ramp couldn't possibly be a difficult task. But expecting the same person to do a good job on the big screen in Bollywood isn't as easy. Actor and model Dia Mirza took a few minutes to think over that predicament, and ended up saying confidently, "I think I am a better actor, than I am a model." Crediting her decision to the versatile lives actors can afford to live, Mirza elaborates on her decision of choosing the silver screen over the ramp: "The beautiful thing about being an actor is that you can be so many things at the same time. You can be a model, a social worker, an activist, a mother or a sister. Things I cannot be in any other field. It's that fact that one job allows me to play the role of so many professions, which makes me love acting more." Mirza recently walked the ramp for the launch of a store in the city, during which she also trained a lot of young models to catwalk. When Mirza, a huge consumer of fashion brands herself, was asked whether she preferred any stage or era of fashion from Bollywood, she immediately picked the 1970s. She says, "The kind of movies that were made then and the way they experimented with fashion, was fascinating. It still happens, but now we're more into realism, and trying to make people look more normal. The grandeur that you would see isn't there anymore. As a result, the unique personality of each actor that would come forth in those movies don't any more. The scope of on-screen fashion is a little limited now."
