Jaguar Land Rover assembly to begin in India by next year


Tata Motors, the Indian car manufacturer is planning to start the car assembly of its new subsidiary Jaguar Land Rover in India. As per Ralph Speth, the head of Jaguar Land Rover the company has extensive plans to start the assembly of products of Land Rover on the Indian soil in the next year.

Tata Motors, took over Jaguar Land Rover, the Bristish car brand in 2008, when it was running into heavy losses. The luxury car brand JLR not only came out of bad debts but has started running as a profitable venture.

Tata Motors are also confident with the Chinese market as it recorded a growth of 2 per cent in 2011's the second quarter. The net profit for Tata Motors in Q2 was registered for Rs 2,223 crore while last year it was Rs 2,178 crore. The revenue generated, in the Fiscal year 2011 by Tata Motors saw a growth from Rs 210.88 billion in 2010 Fiscal Year second quarter to Rs 287.82 billion for Q2FY11. The consolidated sales were up by 36.5 per cent. Tata Motors had a sale of 260,020 cars and other utility vehicles in India.

Jaguar is planning to sell 2,00,000 or more luxury cars which will fetch them a whooping 9.7 billion pounds which was 6.7 billions in 2009. The JLR group is also planning to start a new manufacturing plant in China. The facility is expected to have capacity of 50,000 units which will require a staff of 5,000. As per the company officials, the talks regarding the venture is already on with the Government.

Tata Motors acquisition of JLR is said to be a giant step in setting itself on the global auto market. The British brand is a premium luxury car maker which due to market recession went in debts and after the take over, the same debt ridden luxury carmaker started generating profits. Tata Motors made JLR financially successful.

Other than, JLR, Tata Motors also has other collaboration. In 2004, the Indian car makers took over a truck production unit in South Korea Daewoo, which is now called as Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle.

In the year 2005, it acquired stake in Argon Argonese Hispano Carrocera which accounts to 21 per cent that gave it right to control the company dealings.

Tata Motors joint venture with Brazilian company, Marcopolo in 2007, has helped in successfully launching low floor buses in India.

The Indian car manufacturer also took over Trilix, the Italian company in 2010. Tata Motors acquired 80 per cent of its stake by shelling 1.85 million euros.
Tata Motors took over the design and engineering company because it wanted to expand in international arena in styling and design.
