Microsoft's motion controller Kinect has managed to push 1 million units in 10 days since its Europe and North American release. Although the Xbox 360 4GB and 250GB console bundles also account to this number, this is still a resounding sales success to Microsoft.
As usual, we still haven't officially got Kinect yet, but that hasn't stopped e-xpress Interactive from releasing a range of Kinect enabled Xbox 360 titles, which include Sonic Free Riders, Your Shape Fitness Evolved, Kinect Motion Sports, and Fighters Uncaged. These games utilise motion capture elements of the Kinect camera to bring an unprecedented element of use immersion into gameplay; something that used to be the hallmark of the Nintendo Wii, but the Kinect seems primed to steal its thunder and demographics as well. Sonic Free Riders has a skateboard themed gameplay, where gamers can simulate actual skateboard control, employing kicks to speed up and using their bodies to steer and jump around the game world. Your Shape Fitness Evolved looks quite promising in the trailers, where it seems to be a perfect fitness solution, replete with a virtual personal trainer to train you in various disciplines of aerobics, yoga, tai chi and weight training. The game also appears to be capable of recognising flaws in your form and correcting you accordingly. Kinect Motion Sports features many motion control enabled games spanning across bowling, boxing, track and field, table tennis, soccer (or football for Americans) and beach volleyball. This game features the option to play against a friend or even have multiple players in the same room playing simultaneously. Fighters Uncaged brings the visceral feel of underground fighting to the immersion of the Kinect controller. The game incorporates 70 attack moves, which can be chained into combos, and also sports brutal finishing moves. It employs a progression path of old school fighters allowing the players to unlock opponents, moves and to upgrade the character. These games retail for Rs. 1,999 each, and can prove to be a good deterrent against those who nag you to stop gaming and get some exercise. | |
