The folks at VG247 have managed to get their paws on a PSP2 development kit, which conforms to the previous rumours citing touch sensitive controls at the back of the unit. The PSP2 captured by VG247 bears dual analogue sticks, front and back facing cameras, microphone and a touchpad at the rear. The rumour mills speculated the presence of a very powerful chipset, and that seems to have some credence with the prototype being claimed to be HD capable. If that is truly the case, then the PSP2 is sure to pack in some serious hardware, with some attributing the system to have twice the memory of the Xbox 360. Rumours were rife with claims that different versions of developer kits making the rounds; some developers hinting, while some openly claiming to have possession of the same, so don't count on this to be the final version. In fact, VG247 has already noted that they PSP2 devkit they revealed may be an outdated model. According to them, an updated version exists, which loses the sliding form factor for a more single box design like the original PSP. The website cites a source blaming heating issues of the sliding design for the rehaul. The veracity of these images is open to conjecture, but if there's any semblance of truth to them, we're in for a serious treat with a powerful HD capable handheld console that may be on par with the current generation of consoles. IGN, meanwhile, has confirm the authenticity of the images from a development source. Sony, as expected, has refused to comment on this development. | |
