Tata Nano, popularly known as "People Car” has opened a new very small car segment in the global auto industry. Tata Nano is the cheapest and smallest car made by the Indian auto maker Tata Motors is said to be a revolutionary car as it is a technological challenge to make a car in price constraint.

As per the industry insiders, this very small car segment has a lot of potential to be explored and Tata Nano has made a mark of its own in the global auto market. Auto manufacturers are now gearing up to explore this new formed car segment and some of the big names in the auto industry have started venturing on the same platform.

 

Long time back, Bajaj-Renault-Nissan reported that, the company will introduce a sub compact car in the Indian auto market and also stated that, the small car will be priced around Tata Nano. Recently, Rajiv Bajaj Auto said that, it will be out by 2012 end in the Indian auto market. The car is not ready yet as the first phase design and final specification are still in making. Bajaj Auto will give the technical support to the small compact car and Renault and Nissan are speculated to market the car in their brand name.

Piaggio is manufacturing a new three seater low cost car and the innovative concept was conceived in India itself. It is speculated that the car will hit the Indian roads by the end of 2013. It has an impression and idea of four-wheel version Smart ForTwo. It will feature central front seat for the driver and two rear seat for the passengers. The three seater is codenamed as NT3 and is still in nascent stage. Roberto Colannino, Piaggio head, said that, the company is hoping huge sales with the new version in Europe and Asia which will especially focus on India.

 

Hyundai Ha is another small car which is expected to be launched in different auto markets including India which has great demand for small cars. It is expected that in India, the small car will be loaded with 800 cc engine and is speculated to be priced between Rs 2 to 3 lacs. The small car will face direct competition with Maruti Alto and high end version of Tata Nano.
