![]() There's been consistent talk about Google's pro-Internet, linux-based Operating System by the name of Chrome OS in recent times. Now, Google is making it all official by sending out press invites to media for a "Chrome" event on December 7 in San Fransisco. Watch the words closely, they haven't even talked one bit about the OS in the press-card, making us wonder whether they could pull a slick one on us and not talk about a new version of their soaringly popular browser which goes by the same name. But this is highly unlikely, as updates to the browser keep happening incrementally and regularly. But mainly because industry-insiders are leaking juicy bits to the media.
For example, Engadget got hold of a snap of a netbook keyboard designed specifically for the Chrome OS. Probably Eric Schmidt was overseeing the keyboard design when he declared his love for the QWERTY keys. It's interesting to see how they've replaced the Caps Lock key with the Search button. But replacing the Function keys with buttons that do nifty stuff like changing brightness and volume is a straight rip off from Apple's keyboard for its Macs (which, in recent times, was also something that many Windows-based laptop makers like Dell resorted to doing). But its not like we're complaining, after all imitation is the best form of flattery, right?
![]() So what we're likely to see being unveiled tomorrow is a Google branded netbook - much like how they created the benchmark Google Android phone i.e. the Nexus One. Other manufacturers should also follow suit and release their versions of the Google Chrome OS netbooks soon.
