The hectic daily schedule and unbalanced diet of today’s generation causes number of ailments specifically those related to abdomen. Yoga however suggests various techniques of asana and Pranayams to encounter such problems. ‘Yogmudra’ is one asana which besides toning and stretching the spine, also compresses the abdominal walls, useful in gastric disorders. Sequence: 1. Sit on the mat and assume the ‘Lotus’ or ‘Semi-Lotus’ pose. (Padmasana) 2. Keep the knees pressed to the ground and tighten the feet against thighs. 3. Grasp the left wrist in the right hand after pulling the arm to backside. 4. Keep your neck and spine erect and chest forward. 5. Inhale and as soon as the inhalation is complete, exhale and bend forward till your head touches the floor. 6. Retain the pose so long as convenient during the suspension of breath. 7. Inhale and return to the starting position. 8. Repeat the asana 3 times. Benefits: Yogmudra not strictly a pose, but the symbol of Yoga offers excellent stretching of spine and posterior muscles, deep intra abdominal compression, acceleration of the venous flow from the genitals and stimulates elimination of the faecal matter from the colon. The asana thus clears the intestine and purify the whole body. |
