If your boyfriend/partner cuddles up to you after a steamy hot session, he's really into you and is serious about taking things forward. Now that you're done doing that 'jig of joy', we tell you what it means if you cuddle in either of these ways.

"Cuddling or any form of touching/caressing post sex is as important as the act itself," says Mumbai-based consultant sexologist, Dr Raj Brahmbhatt. It is a way of saying 'thank you, it was nice' to one another, he explains.

Spoon
The classic spoon is the most common way spouses cuddle up to each other. Ninety per cent of the time, it's the man who holds the woman from behind. This cuddle signifies that both the spouses are very comfortable being with each other. "However, it could also mean that one of them is insecure," says Mumbai-based psychologist, Sharita Shah. The person who holds on tighter to their partner could be a little insecure about the relationship or it could be because he/she is what they need in their toughest times.

Face to face
This is how couples sleep usually in the initial stages of their relationship; when they still are in the 'can't stay off each other' phase. "But this is the best way to cuddle up to your partner as it gives way to conversation," says Dr Brahmbhatt. Couples grow out of this one as and when they get more comfortable in each other's presence and there is no urgent need to constantly express how they feel. If you sleep hugging your partner face to face, you are probably on your honeymoon or simply can't get enough!

Head on shoulder
In this pose, it is the girl who usually sleeps with her head on the guy's shoulder. Either way, it indicates admiration for your partner. "It also indicates that the couple are always concerned about one another and will always watch out for each other," Dr Brahmbhatt says. Sometimes it could also indicate that the partner who is sprawled on their back has the top hand in the relationship. "This pose could also mean that the couple is protective about each other," says Dr Shah. If your man cuddles around you no matter which way you are sprawled, it means that he feels secure about the relationship and has no qualms about expressing his feelings for you.

Backs to each other
Most middle -aged couples sleep this way. "Especially after they have kids," says Dr Brahmbhatt. This could mean either - the couple is not so interested in sex and considers it only as a chore or that they are very fulfilled and secure in the relationship and respect each other's need for space. It can also mean that they understand each other very well. "At times however, it could mean that there's trouble in the relationship," says Dr Shah. So it is a good time to ask your partner if something is bothering him.

Sleeping on your back
This one, usually spells danger. This is how two people sleep after a one night stand. If you and your partner are sleeping this way after sex, it could mean the start of rift in communication. But this is not true all the time. "If the couple sleeps on their back after they cuddle for a while, it usually indicates the start of a talk, which is good," says Dr Shah. Try cuddling to your partner after the act. If he shrugs you off, talk to them to find out what could be bothering him. If there is something you would like to tell you partner, go ahead and do so. There's no better time for a heartfelt talk, is there? Or tell him or her if you don't like something they do in bed.
