Princess curls Look as glamourous as Scarlett Johansson, Beyonce Knowles and Miley Cyrus for your next date. “Loose curls are extremely popular on the ramp and red carpet. Make sure they look effortless and comfortable. They shouldn’t look extremely tonged or sprayed,” explains Asha. Quick tip: Use a 1-inch barrel curling iron throughout your hair. Rub your fingers through it for a loose curl. If you like the tight curl, spray some firm hairspray to keep them in place. Gravity-defying up-dos On a special day like an anniversary or a formal party, you don’t want to look ordinary. If you want to go for an elegant or dramatic look, your best bet is to style your hair in an up-do. Done right, it can give you an entirely different aura. “Up-dos are a classic hairstyle right from the 60s. Avoid a side bouffant, especially those made above the ear, they are passé,” says makeup and hair expert Asha Hariharan. Quick tip: Hold your hair up at the roots with straight clips and then blow dry it upwards. When your hair is semi-dry, add rollers and then blow dry. This will give your up-do more body. Accessorise your hair Revamp any hairdo by merely adding a rosette or a spare brooch/ earring. Nothing spells glamour more than jewelled buns. Says Asha, “Be innovative with your accessories, pin rings; or add real flowers to your hairdo. Plastic hair accessories are an absolute no-no, Velvet and satin material accessories are currently very popular for the festive season.” Quick tip: You can use almost anything to accessorise your hair. Try headbands, colourful scrunchies, brooches, earrings; or even a necklace can be worn as a tiara. Messy bobs A sexy, messy bob allows you to be flirty, free and funky. Bobs are versatile and easy-to- wear for a sexy, tousled look. Clint Fernandes, makeup and hair expert, says, “Although they are called messy bobs, they are a choreographed mess. Practise the hairstyle a few times before you actually wear it. Apply a good amount of hair spray and mousse to keep the style intact.” Quick tip: You can have a messy bob even in medium length hair. Lift your hair up and secure it with clips. Then blow dry and backcomb your hair for that extra volume. Low-dos They are simple, chic and versatile. There are many ways to wear a low-do. Clint explains, “Wear a sleek low ponytail or an open French roll style.” Side ponytails are very popular right now; wear them loose with your natural curls flowing. To add more glamour, you can make a bouffant and pin some flowers or a brooch for the complete look. Quick tip: Dry your hair. Then scrunch your hair with some styling products to give you that light wave. Pin your bangs with a decorative bob pin or a kid barrette.
