Apply a cold compress immediately. Make sure not to apply ice directly to a hickey. Wrap ice cubes in a towel to make a compress, and remove it if the cold becomes too painful. This will help to lighten the hickey.
Apply concealer in a shade that's lighter than your natural skin color and discreet enough to fend off unwanted attention.
You can even apply a layer of toothpaste to the hickey, and when it stops tingling in a few minutes, remove the toothpaste with a warm washcloth.
Remember that if all else fails, nothing beats a turtleneck sweater - or a scarf in summer.
