A hectic schedule can leave us tired and exhausted, it also makes the mind restless and disturbed. In order to attain the calmness of mind, Yoga suggests 'Suryabhedana Pranayam': Method of performing the 'Pranayam': -Sit in Padmasana or Sidhasana with closed eyes. -Close the left nostril with the ring finger of your right hand and inhale as slowly and deeply as you can. -Then close the right nostril with your right thumb and retain the breath (Kumbhak) by pressing the chin against the chest (Jalandhar Bandh). -Release Jalandhar Bandh and then exhale the breath that you have so far retained through your left nostril, keeping the right nostril closed, followed by Uddiyan band (Abdominal lock). -Repeat the process 5 to 10 times. Benefits of the Pranayama: It energizes brain, invigorates the mind and awakens Kundalini Shakti. It strengthens liver and immune system, purifies blood. It is an ideal remedy for common cold and rhinitis. It stimulates appetite, destroys intestinal worms, cures gas problems and all other intestinal ailments. Precautions : All the inhalations should be done through the right nostrils and exhalations through left. You must feel the passage of air throughout the process at the tips of your fingers. Do not exhaust or strain yourself too much. |
