Los Angeles: A wide-ranging collection of memorabilia and ephemera of singing greats like John Lennon, Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson and Hollywood A-listers Barbara Streisand and Elizabeth Taylor will hit the auction block here this week. Julien`s Auctions `Icons and Idols` sale on December 3-4 in Beverly Hills will see for the first time an extensive collection of Lennon and Beatles memorabilia, the auction house said. The sale includes handwritten working lyrics, drawings and clothing from Lennon. The lead Beatle`s abundant creativity is showcased in unusual self-portraits inscribed to friends, a collage created for Elton John`s 28th birthday (est USD 30,000-40,000), drawings and prose that appeared in Lennon`s 1965 book `A Spaniard in the Works` (est USD 2,000- 4,000) and a jacket that was almost lost to the world were it not for the keen eye of a Salvation Army driver. Worn by Lennon in 1966 for a Life magazine photoshoot, the jacket (est USD 150,000-200,000), is emblematic of Lennon`s singular fashion sense and style that inspired the cover for the Sergeant Pepper album and echoed in The Beatles appearance for years to come. As a child, rock and roll legend Jimi Hendrix did not own a guitar and the Silvertone electric guitar he borrowed from school friend Sear while he played in the band The Velvetones is up for grabs (est USD 100,000-200,000). A number of Rolling Stone`s memorabilia will also hit the auction block. A stunning collection of Elvis items has been assembled for this very special auction. Early photographs, film worn and personal clothing, jewelry gifted to and from him, two of his handguns, books, and signed items from the career of a true legend are included in this unique collection. This sale also includes personal clothing from icons such as Cher and Madonna, Bruce Springsteen annotated lyrics and guitars signed by Greg Allman, Guns N Roses, Bono and many more. Taking centrestage in this sale is the `King of Pop` Jackson. The sale features more than 100 items from his life and career. A military style jacket Jackson wore while celebrating Nelson Mandela`s 78th birthday (est USD 10,000- 20,000) is a testament to Jackson`s activism and wide circle of influential friends. There is also an assemblage of Hollywood memorabilia - Streisand`s `Funny Lady` dress, Vivien Leigh`s blouse from `Gone With the Wind`, Elizabeth Taylor worn items from `Cleopatra` and `Life With Father` and also Marlene Dietrich`s personal dress. . |
