Why betel is chewed by the wedding couple



Betel plays an important role in Indian culture, especially among Hindus. Many traditional ceremonies, governing the Hindu lives use betel and areca as it is considered auspicious.
In Hindu weddings there are many customs to be followed. Some customs are related with the religion and some with the science.
Mostly the custom of giving betel to the bride and the bridegroom during their wedding is very common and popular.
The betel is also regarded as the beauty of the mouth. At every auspicious accession, betel is served after the meals.
Betel is also used for worship and for the sanctity of the rituals. Betel is a mild stimulant, antiseptic and breathe freshener. If betel is taken regularly, number of stomach disorders like acidity, constipation and indigestion are cured.
During the wedding days the bride and the bride groom have to eat many things causing gastric problems, but if betel is taken after the meals then there will be no stomach ailments.
The ingredients used for making a betel plays an important role in keeping the stomach clean therefore the betel is chewed by the bride and the bride groom during wedding.
