Indian marriages are an occasion of celebration. Not only the bride and groom participate in the rituals of a wedding but all members of both the families take part with enjoyment, excitement and amusement in various ceremonies of a wedding. The custom to hide shoes of the groom is performed by youngsters of both the families. It is carried out to promote love and affection and it helps in maintaining harmonious, congenial relations between both the families, as well as it embellishes the environment of wedding with fun and entertainment. In this custom, the bride’s sisters and friends try their best to steal the shoes of the groom and the groom’s siblings and friends too, try to protect the shoes at all costs. This custom is associated with the prestige of both the families. It the bride’s sisters and friends succeed in stealing the shoes, the groom has to pay the amount, which is demanded by the bride’s sisters to get the shoes back. In this way, this custom is practiced to add entertainment, fun, enjoyment and pleasure in a wedding ceremony. |
